Girl Picking Flowers by Michael Roman, 1999
My win daughter (win, place and show) called recently and asked why my paintings were no longer on my website. Unfortunately, I had moved the site to a new web host and decided a new design was in order, but I never got around to adding all the galleries.
I now have most of my favorite paintings back on my website. You can find them on the Painting Gallery page. Cheers.
Jacqueline Kennedy’s Pink Suit, 2013
I etched and printed Jacqueline Kennedy’s Pink Suit (working title) in my printmaking class at Southern Methodist University last Wednesday.
The iconic pink suit is a Chanel copy. It was not a knock-off, but instead a purposeful copy as Chanel is a French designer. I believe the American firm that made the suit had permission to use the design with minor adjustment.
My little etching is only 2.5 x 3 inches. I pulled test prints as an etching, chine collé, mono type (displayed) and chine collé mono type. The small print looks very good on a large sheet of paper. The chine collé prints are done with pink paper. Continue reading
Dearly Departed, 1994 – Linoleum Block Print, 9 x 12 inches, 2009
Dearly Departed, 1994 (2009) has to be one of my favorite linoleum block prints of all time.
I created this print for the 15 year anniversary members exhibit at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary. Dearly Departed at the time was a print of fifteen famous, dead people from fifteen years ago. Continue reading
President John F. Kennedy (mono)
Last week I created a etch of President John F. Kennedy. I used the president’s portrait for my design. After marking the hard ground with a needle, I etched the copper plate in acid for about 45 minutes. This gave me a rather deep line drawing.
I inked the copper plate on a hot pad and then removed most of the ink. I used my fingers and Q-tips to tone the plate. Because I have specially toned the plate, this is not a mono type.
Visit my Printmaking – Etching and Mono Types page to see a etch of the same print. And don’t miss my latest linoleum block print, Kennedy, Tippit, Owsald, Ruby on my Printmaking – Linoleum Block Prints page.
Vincent with Bandaged Ear by M.C. Roman, 2011
In the spring of 2011, I created two Vincent etchings in my printmaking class. The etchings were simple line drawings without any hatching or aqua tint. I created the mono types with just my finger tips and cotton swabs.
The mono types are 5×7 inches on Rives BFK paper.
