Dr. Jack S. Kilby, father of the integrated circuit and Nobel laureate, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2005.
I was fortunate to meet Jack a couple of times in 2002. On one occasion, Jack kindly signed five limited edition block prints I donated to Texas Instruments' (TI) United Way campaign. The five prints, matted and framed, took in $135 for the charity.
The Jack Kilby print earned second place at the 2003 TI art show and honorable mention at Artscape in 2005. It remains one of my most popular block prints.
I think that block print of Jack says every thing you need to know about him. Jack was quite, reserve and dignified. But more important, he was a real person. Thank you, Jack.
I mean no disrespect by referring to Dr. Kilby as Jack. Everyone at TI from the CEO down is on a first name basis.
